Started out visiting Edinburgh Castle. Web sources seen to warm against going first thing in the morning, but I disagree. By the time I left, a couple hours after opening, it was really crowded (although the site’s mini-tour guide indicated it was a light day). I’m very glad I got there before it got too busy.
I’ll upload more pix when I get on WiFi.
Finally got up the guts to try my first haggis today (as a “starter” with my lunch – my main meal of the day). Tasted like a very moist meatloaf. I think how good haggis tastes is highly dependent on the gravy put over it, and the gravy here at Howie’s was very good. My main dish, salmon, potatoes and broccoli, was very tasty. And I was glad to follow my server’s recommendation of having some Glenfiddich 12 y/o.
|Quintessence||Emily Carding||Really good. I’d like to get my hands on this script to perform it myself.|
|DNA||?||Recommended by someone in my hotel room, and deservedly so. Excellent acrobatic/aerial performance.|
|The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui||Probably teenagers, but very talented ones with good direction. |
|Fempire: Cleo, Theo, and Wu||By and featuring Kristen Vangness of Criminal Minds fame. It was okay. A little simplistically PC feminist. |
Started the day with a Little Fish walking tour of old town. The tour guide, Stephanie, was very entertaining.
|It’s True, It’s True, It’s True||Large venue, 3 women “verbatim” performance that was beautifully staged.|
|The Patient Gloria||Large venue. The older main actress gave an inspirational performance.|
|Elizabethan||Meh. Solo guy playing a lute looking thing that was clearly a regular guitar tried to string together so so performances of Elizabethan songs with what was supposed to be a humorous tale, but really wasn’t.|
|Chameleon||This solo young woman seemed to be pouring her heart into this, but I just didn’t get it.|
Attempted and failed to climb to Arthur’s Seat. It was very disappointing to find myself so out of shape. I did still see some lovely views of Edinburgh.
|The Importance of Being Earnest||German company. They did really weird clownish physical humor. Jack as a (female, speaking) Harpo Marx, should give your an idea. Interesting at first, but wore on me.|
|Hide and Seek||Really interesting one man show. Found out after her was also running all his not insignificant tech.|
|Fishbowl||Big space event. Interesting physical theater|
|Drowning||Produced by Carrie-Anne Moss. Kinda interesting, but mostly disappointing.|
|Genesis: The Marty Shelley Play|
|To Fall In Love|
|Pussy in Boots: The Adult Panto||Needed to see what a Panto was like. Now I have. Think Ren faire without the Ren. Not terribly adult. |
